GMC B’la performs pioneering AC Joint Reconstruction

Baramulla: In a historic milestone for the Department of Orthopaedics at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, a pioneering AC Acrominoclavicular Joint Shoulder Reconstruction with Hamstring Graft was successfully performed Thursday.

The procedure, a first of its kind at GMC Baramulla, was led by Assistant Professor Dr Ishtiyaq Abdullah, supported by Dr Aamir and Dr Shafeeq(SR)

The surgical team, complemented by the expertise of the Anesthesia team led by Dr Gulzar and Dr Parvaiz, along with dedicated technical staff including Mr. Jaffer Ahmad, Mr. Fareed Ahmad, Kaiser Rehman, Mr. Bilal Ahmad, Murtaza Rasool, Muzaffar, Gh Mohiuddin, Sadiq Ashraf, and Khalid Rashid, executed the intricate AC Joint reconstruction without the use of any implant.

The patient, diagnosed with a Type 3 right AC Joint dislocation, underwent an MRI evaluation and was scheduled for the groundbreaking procedure on January 4, 2024.

“The surgery, carried out at the Ortho Theatre GMC Baramulla, utilized a bra-type incision, and the joint was meticulously reconstructed with a Hamstring Graft under the Aayushman Bharat scheme.”

The whole Ortho team at Associated hospital GMC Baramulla expressed gratitude to the principal, GMC Baramulla Prof. Dr. Ruby Reshi, and the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, for their unwavering support in making this advanced surgery a reality at GMC Baramulla.
