Srinagar: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police Monday arrested 2 drug peddlers in Baramulla, recovering brown sugar and cannabis from their possession.
Authorities said that a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO PS Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Azadgunj Baramulla, intercepted a person identified as Nazir Ahmad Gagroo son of Ab Khaliq resident of Arampora Azadgunj Baramulla.
“During search, 20 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Baramulla where he remains in custody,” police said.
Similarly, a police party of Police Station Bijhama headed by SHO PS Bijhama at a checkpoint established at Bijhama Baramulla, intercepted a person identified as Iqbal War son of Ahmad War resident of Gujjarpati Lachipplora Bijhama.
During search, 3.2 Kgs of Cannabis Powder was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Bijhama where he remains in custody, police said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at PS Baramulla & PS Bijhama and investigations have been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112.”
Police added: “People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.”
