New Delhi: The Central Information Commission (CIC) marked a dynamic year of accomplishments, registering 19,207 appeals/complaints and successfully disposing of 18,261 cases from January 1 to December 13, 2023. Notably, 6,112 Video Conferencing sessions were conducted during this period.
To enhance transparency and efficiency, a three-day training program for Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) of Delhi was conducted from June 21 to June 23, focusing on the “Submission of Quarterly Returns.”
In an effort to reach citizens in remote areas, public hearings were organized for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir at the J&K Institute of Management and Public Administration, Srinagar, from July 3 to July 5, 2023.
A workshop addressing the “Challenges in Implementation of the RTI Act” was conducted in Srinagar on July 6, 2023, attended by 150 CPIOs from various Public Authorities and officials of CIC and J&K Administration.
The CIC prioritized the ‘Suo Moto Disclosure’ component of the RTI Act through an annual transparency audit of various Public Authorities. In the year 2022-23, 1,073 PAs communicated their audit reports to the CIC. The Commission also conducted a Sample Transparency Audit of 20 PAs for the year 2023.
A groundbreaking One-day seminar on “Cyber Security” took place on October 31, 2023, marking a significant milestone for the CIC. ShriSomnathBannerjee, President CISO & Senior Vice President Global Services, delivered the keynote address.
The CIC actively participated in the “Capacity Building Programme for Civil Servants of Republic of Maldives and Senior officers of Information Commission of Maldives (ICOM),” organized by the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG).
Moreover, the CIC’s internship program attracted 47 law students in 2023, providing them with a unique opportunity to learn and contribute to the Commission’s operations.
The year-end review showcases the CIC’s dedication to transparency, efficiency, and continuous improvement in promoting the Right to Information Act.
