Srinagar, Budgam: The 4th National Lok Adalat, organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar under the patronage of the J&K Legal Services Authority, took place at District Court Complex Mominabad Srinagar.
The event, conducted with the guidance of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Patron-in-Chief) J&K Legal Services Authority, and Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority, was inaugurated by Jawad Ahmed, Chairman District Legal Services Authority Srinagar.
A total of 14 benches were constituted by DLSA Srinagar for the 4th National Lok Adalat, including three special benches for the settlement of revenue matters, social welfare matters, and labor cases. Each bench, headed by judicial officers, resolved a pre-identified set of cases covering civil, criminal compoundable, cheque bounce, traffic challans, bank matters, MACT, land compensation, matrimonial, electricity, and pre-litigation matters.
Notably, the Lok Adalat bench addressing motor vehicle accident cases, presided over by Jeema Bashir and Aarti Mohan, awarded compensation totaling rupees 2,58,75,000. In bank cases, Bench No. 3, led by Arvind Sharma and Renu Dogra, awarded a settlement amount of rupees 6,77,42,494. Bench No. 7, consisting of Fozia Paul (City Judge) Srinagar, and Shafeeq Ahmad Malik (1st Additional Munsiff) Srinagar, settled cases amounting to rupees 8,23,50,000.
In total, 58,811 matters were taken up for amicable settlement, with 52,774 matters successfully resolved. The settlement amount reached a total of rupees 18,42,60,478.
Meanwhile in Budgam, the event was inaugurated by Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman District Legal Services Authority) Budgam, at District Court Complex Budgam. Seven benches were constituted by DLSA Budgam for the settlement of cases in the National Lok Adalat, including two special benches for labor and social welfare matters.
Bench No. 1 comprised Khalil Ahmad Choudhary (Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge Budgam) and Farah Bashir (Munsiff JMIC Budgam), Bench No. 2 comprised Aijaz Ahmad Khan (Additional District and Sessions Judge Budgam) and Sheikh Gowher (Spl. Mobile Magistrate Budgam), Bench No. 3 comprised Noor Mohammad Mir (Chief Judicial Magistrate Budgam) and Advocate Javid Ahmad Mir (Panel Lawyer DLSA Budgam), Bench No. 4 comprised Mir Wajahat (Sub Judge Chadoora) and Tajamul Islam (Panel Lawyer TLSC Chadoora), Bench No. 5 comprised Uzma Amin (Munsiff JMIC Chadoora) and Nusrat Nabi (Panel Lawyer TLSC Chadoora), Bench No. 6 comprised Massarat Jabeen (Munsiff JMIC Magam) In-charge (Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Beerwah), and Mohammad Yaqoob (Panel Lawyer TLSC Magam). Bench No. 7 comprised Fakhar un Nissa (Munsiff JMIC Chararisharief) and N.A Mashooq (President, Bar Association Chararisharief), Bench No. 8 comprised Ubaid ul Khazir (District Social Welfare Officer Budgam) and Mushtaq Ahmad Parray (Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Budgam), and Bench No. 9 comprised Zamir Ali (Assistant Labour Commissioner Budgam) and Farooq Ahmad (Labour Inspector Budgam).
The cases for settlement covered a wide range, including Civil, Criminal Compoundable, Cheque bounce, Bank matters, MACT, Land Compensation, Matrimonial, Electricity, and Pre-litigation matters. Additionally, pre-litigation matters were addressed, encompassing PDD matters, bank recovery matters, PHE cases, Social Welfare Schemes, Labour, Revenue, Matrimonial disputes, land disputes, BSNL cases, municipality cases, and other government schemes.
In total, 788 matters were taken up for amicable settlement, with 449 matters successfully resolved. The settlement amounted to Rs. 9,13,53,115/-.
