Srinagar Smart City’s ambitious “Electric Bus Project” set to revolutionize commuting

Srinagar:  A significant step towards sustainable and eco-friendly urban mobility, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently launched the Srinagar Smart City’s ambitious “Electric Bus Project.”
The project aims to revolutionize commuting in the city while taking a giant stride towards making Srinagar a pollution-free metropolis. With the grand inauguration, 100 electric buses were introduced into the city’s public transport system, marking a new era in urban transportation.
The launch event, held at the Nishat Bus Terminal, was a momentous occasion for the city. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the importance of green initiatives and their role in reducing pollution, improving air quality, and enhancing the overall quality of life for Srinagar’s residents.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “The introduction of these electric buses is expected to provide a more convenient and efficient commuting experience for the people of Srinagar. The e-buses come equipped with modern amenities, including air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and GPS tracking systems, making public transportation not only green but also comfortable and convenient.”
He said, “The availability of electric buses will improve connectivity and accessibility within the city, reducing the dependency on private vehicles and mitigating traffic congestion. The buses will ply on major routes across the city, ensuring that residents have easy access to public transport.”
Pertinently, one of the most pressing concerns in modern urban living is air pollution. Srinagar, like many other cities, faces challenges related to vehicular emissions. The introduction of electric buses is a strategic move to reduce the city’s carbon footprint and combat air pollution.
Electric buses are eco-friendly and produce zero tailpipe emissions. By transitioning from traditional internal combustion engine buses to electric ones, Srinagar will significantly contribute to lowering harmful pollutants in the atmosphere. This initiative aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainability.
An environmentalist said, “The launch of electric buses is not only a victory for the environment but also a promising economic opportunity. These buses are not only energy-efficient but also cost-effective to operate and maintain. This move can potentially lead to substantial savings for the local government, which can be redirected towards other essential services.”
He said, “Moreover, the use of electric buses will reduce the city’s reliance on fossil fuels and, in turn, decrease its vulnerability to fuel price fluctuations. This will make public transportation more affordable and dependable for the citizens of Srinagar.”
According to the officials Srinagar Smart City’s 100 Electric Buses Project is a part of its broader vision to create a more livable and sustainable urban environment. By integrating modern technology and sustainable practices into urban development, the city aims to enhance the quality of life for its residents. “The launch of the Srinagar Smart City’s Electric Bus Project is a significant step forward for the city. As the project unfolds, Srinagar is set to become a shining example of how urban development and sustainability can go hand in hand, making the city not just smart but also eco-conscious and pollution-free,” officials added.
