Secretary APD kickstarts breeding operations in Gbl

Srinagar: Secretary Agriculture Production Department (APD) Shabnum Kamli, along with Director Fisheries Mohammad Farooq Dar visited Ganderbal to take stock of the developments in fisheries sector in the district.

Shabum Kamli along with Director Fisheries, Assistant Director Fisheries visited re-circulatory aquaculture facility at Ahan, which is under execution and will contribute more than 1000 tons to the state trout production.

She also addressed farmers at Mammar and urged farmers to adopt fiah culture, which is assuming boom. She also directed officials of the Department to work enthusiastically for welfare of fishermen and fish farmers.

On a welcome note Assistant Director Fisheries, Dr. Salman acquainted about the appreciations from Trabzon University, Turkey for the research on the GIS of rainbow trout in District Ganderbal along with the appreciations from the district administration, Ganderbal.

Kamli was very pleased to know about the conservative approaches being used for treatment of fish diseases, which shall make District Ganderbal as first Antibiotic Free Livestock Village of the country.

She appreciated the involvement of women entrepreneurs, who, despite having higher professional qualifications, adopt fish culture and lend helping hand to the families.

Kamli envisaged the need for insurance support to fish farmers to meet out any adversity, in addition to the feed mill, which shall suffice the need in the broader interest of the farmers. Work orders for construction of trout ponds and biofloc units were distributed among farmers for construction of units under HADP and two bikes with icebox were also handed over to the beneficiaries selected by District Steering Committee under PMMSY.

Kamli also kick-started trout breeding program at Mammar, which is backbone to the trout industry of the District and provides fingerlings to neighbouring district for earning livelihood by the farmers.
