Kashmir about to don its winter coat

Srinagar:  As Autumn leaves fall, and temperatures drop, residents of Kashmir are bracing themselves for winter that lies ahead. The beautiful landscape of Kashmir, known for its pristine beauty and serene charm, transforms into a winter wonderland, but it also brings with it numerous challenges that residents must contend with.
The weather in Kashmir has already started to change noticeably. The days have grown shorter, and the crisp, chilly air of autumn has set in.
Temperatures in Kashmir have steadily dropped over the past few weeks, signaling the onset of winter. The maximum daytime temperature has fallen, while the nights have become much colder.
One of the most noticeable signs of winter’s approach is the gradual disappearance of vibrant autumn foliage, as deciduous trees shed their leaves in preparation for the long, cold months ahead.
The changing weather is a reminder to residents that they must prepare for the challenging winter ahead. Preparations include stocking up on essentials such as firewood, heating oil, and warm clothing. Many households in the region still rely on traditional heating methods like kangris (clay pots filled with hot embers) to keep warm, and these are in high demand as winter approaches.
Roads leading to remote areas in Kashmir, which are often cut off during heavy snowfall, are also being maintained and cleared of debris to ensure accessibility throughout the season.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “Healthcare facilities and hospitals are gearing up for the winter influx of patients, as cold-related illnesses become more prevalent.”
He said, “People should take precautions against common winter ailments like flu and frostbite by getting vaccinated, dressing in layers, and staying indoors during extreme cold spells.”
The official said, “The administration is also working diligently to ensure that essential services like electricity and water supply remain uninterrupted throughout the winter.”

While the winter season in Kashmir undoubtedly poses challenges, it is also a time when the region’s natural beauty is at its peak. Snow-capped mountains, frozen lakes, and the hushed tranquility of the landscape create a unique charm that draws tourists from around the world. Many hotels and guesthouses are already fully booked for the upcoming months, as tourists prepare to experience the magic of a Kashmiri winter.

As winter knocks at the door in Kashmir, residents are prepared to face the cold with resilience and determination. They recognize that while the coming months may be challenging, the beauty and sense of community that prevail in the valley during this season make it a truly special time of year. Kashmir, known as “Paradise on Earth,” is about to don its winter coat, and both residents and visitors are eagerly awaiting the transformation.
