Srinagar: In a bid to rejuvenate the charm and allure of the picturesque Kashmir, the administration has embarked on an ambitious beautification project that is giving a fresh facelift to the major towns.
The efforts, according to the officials are focused on revamping pavements, realigning electric poles, enhancing the facades of buildings, improving road infrastructure, reducing visual pollution, and maintaining green spaces. “This transformative endeavor not only promises to make these towns more aesthetically pleasing but also aims to boost tourism and improve the overall quality of life for residents,” an official told Precious Kashmir.
Pertinently, Kashmir has long been celebrated for its natural beauty, but over time, rapid urbanization and neglect had taken a toll on the region’s towns and cities. The beautification initiative, driven by the administration, seeks to restore and amplify the intrinsic charm of places like Srinagar, Jammu, Anantnag, and Baramulla, among others.
“One of the most noticeable changes brought about by the project is the redevelopment of pavements. In several major towns, old and damaged sidewalks are being replaced with smooth, well-paved walkways. These pedestrian-friendly zones are not only enhancing the safety of pedestrians but also adding a touch of sophistication to the urban landscape,” said an observer.
An official said, “The realignment of electric poles is a significant aspect of this transformation. Often haphazardly positioned poles, which obstructed the view and disrupted the aesthetics, are being strategically relocated. This effort is not only improving the visual appeal but also ensuring a safer and more organized electrical infrastructure.”
“Facade enhancement of buildings is a key element in the beautification process. Property owners are being encouraged to refurbish and paint their structures, adhering to traditional architectural designs and colors. This approach aims to maintain the unique character of Kashmiri architecture while providing a fresh and vibrant look to the urban environment,” he added.
According to the officials road infrastructure is also undergoing a major makeover. “Roads are being widened, and new road markings and signage are being introduced to enhance traffic management. Additionally, the lining of roads with trees and flowers is adding a touch of natural beauty to the bustling streets. The overall result is a safer and more aesthetically pleasing urban transportation system,” they added.
It’s in place to mention here that last week Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri chaired a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and HoDs of various departments wherein he gave slew of directions for steps to be taken for makeover of towns.
He directed DCs to prepare most of the works by September 30, so that towns become attractive and appealing.
