Srinagar: In a bid to improve the quality of life for its citizens and promote sustainable development, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has initiated various projects to strengthen the core infrastructure and integrate technological tools within the Smart City projects in Srinagar.

The key focus of these projects, according to the officials, is to address the challenges faced by the city and ensure a sustainable and clean environment for its residents. “These initiatives aim to enhance the city’s livability, promote economic growth, and improve the overall well-being of its citizens,” officials told Precious Kashmir.

They said, “One of the major projects implemented under the Smart City initiative is the introduction of technological tools to manage and monitor the city’s waste management system effectively. Effective waste management is crucial for creating a clean and green environment. With these technological advancements, we aim to minimize waste generation and maximize resource recovery.”

Another crucial aspect that the government, according to the officials, is focusing on is improving the city’s transportation infrastructure. “The launch of the Smart Mobility Plan aims to integrate various technological solutions to provide efficient and sustainable transportation options for the residents. This includes the introduction of smart parking management systems, integrated traffic management systems, and the development of pedestrian-friendly spaces,” officials added.

“The Smart Mobility Plan is aimed at encouraging citizens to adopt a greener approach to commuting. It would reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by creating a comprehensive public transportation system, integrating electric and hybrid vehicles,” they said.

“The government is making strides in incorporating smart technology for energy management within the city. The implementation of smart grids will optimize the distribution and consumption of electricity, leading to reduced energy wastage and better load management. This not only ensures energy efficiency but also reduces carbon emissions, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment,” officials said.

Pertinently, to further strengthen Srinagar’s infrastructure, the government has also embarked on initiatives to develop smart water management systems. This involves the installation of smart meters to analyze water consumption patterns, detect leaks, and facilitate efficient water distribution. “Such initiatives aim to conserve water resources and ensure equitable and sustainable access to clean water for the citizens of Srinagar,” the official said, adding, “These projects are aimed at ensuring a high quality of life for the citizens of Srinagar. Smart City projects are aimed at transforming Srinagar into a modern and sustainable city having state-of-the-art infrastructure, clean and green environment, and a high standard of living.”
