Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) maintaining its number one rank among all Union Territories (UTs) in the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment (NeSDA) rankings of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) is an achievement which showcases the tremendous improvement in the overall governance system in J&K, driven by the adoption of digital technologies.
Pertinently, the NeSDA rankings serve as a yardstick to evaluate the effectiveness of e-governance initiatives in different states and UTs across India. The assessment criteria include the availability of online services, grievance redressal mechanisms, transparency and accountability, and citizen-centricity. J&K’s remarkable progress in these areas has not only helped streamline government operations but also enhanced citizen satisfaction.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “One of the key factors behind J&K’s success is the swift implementation of digital technologies across various government departments. Online services have been made accessible to citizens, allowing them to conduct routine administrative tasks without visiting government offices physically. This has not only saved time and effort for citizens but has also reduced corruption and enhanced transparency in governance.”
“Moreover, the grievance redressal system in J&K has undergone a significant transformation. Through the use of digital platforms, citizens can now raise their concerns and grievances online, eliminating the need for physical visits to government offices. This step has not only made the process more convenient but has also ensured that grievances are addressed promptly and efficiently. The UT government has implemented a robust tracking mechanism to monitor the status of grievances and maintain transparency in the redressal process,” he added.
Notably, in addition to the digitization of services, J&K has made notable progress in implementing citizen-centric initiatives. The UT government has actively engaged with citizens through digital platforms and social media to seek their feedback and suggestions. This has allowed the government to understand the needs and concerns of the people better, leading to the development of policies and programs that cater to their requirements. The involvement of citizens in the decision-making process has greatly enhanced the overall governance system in J&K.
“The achievement of being ranked number one among all UTs in the NeSDA rankings is a testament to the commitment of the J&K administration towards leveraging digital technologies for the betterment of citizens. The remarkable progress made by J&K sets an example for other states and UTs to emulate and accelerate their digital transformation journey,” said an official.
“With the improvement in overall governance, J&K aims to create a citizen-centric and technology-driven environment, enabling seamless interaction between the government and its citizens. The UT administration’s efforts in embracing digital technologies have not only improved the lives of the people in J&K but have also set a benchmark for other regions to follow in the path of digital transformation,” he added.
