4 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday said that four drug peddlers have been arrested in Baramulla & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party led by SHO Police Station Sheeri under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Altaf Ahmad at a checkpoint established at Gantmulla Balla near Iqbal Resorts intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said.

During the search, 26 grams of Charas like substance and 56 SpasmoProxyvon capsules were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Yatoo son of Mohd Sultan Yatoo resident of Heewan. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, police said.

Similarly, officers from PS Chandoosa under the supervision of SDPO Kreeri Khalid Ashraf arrested one drug smuggler at a checkpoint established near Petrol pump at Kachwa Chandoosa alongwith 145 grams of Charas like substance. He has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Rather son of Gh Nabi Rather resident of Wagoora. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody, police said.

In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Khansahab at a checkpoint established at Drigam intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK01F-6877 with two persons on board, police said.

During search of the said vehicle, 490 grams of Charas like substance was recovered. They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Choupan @Shabir Dembali son of Gh Ahmad Choupan resident of Dembal Chadoora and Irshad Ahmad Rather son of Mohd Ayoub Rather resident of Dadompora Chadoora. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime have also been seized, police added.

Accordingly, police spokesman said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
