J&K Govt embarks on mission to engage 75 lakh citizens in sporting events

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has set an ambitious target of engaging 75 lakh citizens in a variety of sporting events across the region.
According to the officials the initiative aims to promote a culture of active participation and healthy living among the one and all. “During the past few years the government has laid special emphasis on developing sports infrastructure in J&K. The government is committed to provide opportunities for aspiring athletes to showcase their talent and represent the region on a national and international level,” an official told Precious Kashmir.
With the target of involving 75 lakh individuals in various sporting events, the Government aims to ensure that no aspiring athlete is left behind. This inclusive approach hopes to uncover hidden talents from the grassroots level and provide them with the necessary resources and opportunities to excel in their chosen sporting disciplines,” the official said, adding, “Over the past few years the dedicated efforts have resulted in significant progress in sports infrastructure. Numerous multi-purpose sports complexes, stadiums, and training centers have been constructed, providing world-class facilities that match international standards. The establishments offer specialized coaching and training resources across various disciplines, including cricket, football, badminton, and boxing, among others.”
It’s in place to mention here that J&K Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta recently inaugurated the modern gymnasium and weightlifting Hall at Bakshi Stadium, in Srinagar.
After the inaugural ceremony Dr Mehta said, “The government has created world-class infrastructure in J&K during the past few years and that sport is a priority of the government and adequate resources have been earmarked for its upliftment in the UT.”
He enjoined upon the players to optimally utilize the facilities and  assured them that the administration shall  extend all  facilities to them so that they chase their dreams of making big name in the sports of their choice.
A player said, “The football enthusiasts have also benefitted from the government’s proactive sports infrastructure agenda. The TRC Synthetic Turf Football Stadium has undergone crucial modifications to expand its capacity, making it a popular destination for local and national-level football tournaments. The stadium has gained recognition for its state-of-the-art artificial turf, providing players with an authentic playing experience while reducing the chances of injuries.”
He said the officials have extended their focus beyond cricket and football. “Lot of money has been spent in renovating and establishing indoor sporting facilities, such as badminton and basketball courts, to encourage participation in these sports. Several state-of-the-art training centers have been set up in remote areas, catering to athletes who come from underprivileged backgrounds but exhibit exceptional talent in their chosen disciplines,” the player added.
Pertinently, during the past few years the sports infrastructure development has also attracted attention from sporting bodies and private investors. As a result, J&K has hosted a variety of national and regional-level sporting events. In addition to promoting physical activity and fostering sports talent, the officials have recognized the significance of sports in generating employment and boosting tourism in the region. “These efforts are not only contributing to the overall well-being of its residents but are also showcasing the immense potential and talent that resides within J&K,” said an observer.
