Srinagar: The Department of Social Work (DoSW), University of Kashmir, organised a special lecture on “Women Entrepreneurs in North-East India” on Wednesday.
The lecture was delivered by Prof Vijaylakshmi Brara from Royal Global University, Guwahati, Assam, and was attended by faculty, scholars and students of various departments of the University.
Prof Brara highlighted the role of Ima Keithel (All-Women’s Market) of Manipur and its importance in the lives of women. She also presented a detailed account of the present scenario of women entrepreneurship in North-East India with a number of success stories. Issues and challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in North-East India and field reality of the same were also discussed. The lecture was followed by a question-answer session.
Dr Shazia Manzoor, Head Department of Social Work, KU, welcomed the guest speaker and highlighted the importance of the theme of the lecture. Dr Saima Farhad, Assistant Professor, DoSW, moderated the lecture and presented the vote of thanks.
MERC organises special lecture
Srinagar: Media Education and Research Centre (MERC), University of Kashmir on Wednesday organised a guest lecture on “International Relations and Media’s Role in Shaping the Public Perspective”.
The lecture was attended by MERC students, scholars and faculty members. It was delivered by Dr Syed Jaleel Hussain, a Fullbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellow at the Mario Einaudi Centre for International Studies at Cornell University, New York.
Dr Jaleel, who teaches at Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, said, “Media practitioners are the perspective builders and perspectives play important role in shaping discourses on global level.”
He further said that the students of media must develop a clear and unambiguous understanding of the levels and techniques of analysis to facilitate an informed understanding of international relations and global situations.
He stressed that media lies at the core of conducting international relations.
Citing examples from global scenarios, Dr Jaleel explained international relations and gave a three-pronged approach to students to analyse the contemporary events taking place at global and regional level.
He also highlighted the importance of the ancient Indian text “Arthshaastar” in understanding the conduct of statecraft and international relations.
