Drug smuggler arrested in Baramulla: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A Police party led by SHO Police Station Kunzer under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiaz Ahmed at a checkpoint established at Pinjoora Crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number DL8CAW-6316 driven by one person identified as Rouf Ahmad Wani son of Nazir Ahmad Wani resident of Roshanabad Pinjoora, a police spokesman said.

During checking, officers were able to recover 105 grams of Charas like substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Kunzer and further investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
