Srinagar, June 20: In an effort to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has initiated a special cleanliness campaign aimed at keeping cities and villages in the region clean.
Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta has issued explicit instructions to officers to sensitize the public about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings. Furthermore, stringent measures will be taken against individuals who irresponsibly dispose of garbage, thereby endangering the environment.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “Recognizing the significance of cleanliness for the overall well-being of communities, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has taken proactive steps to instill a sense of responsibility among its residents. The cleanliness campaign seeks to create awareness about the adverse effects of improper waste disposal and encourage individuals to take ownership of their surroundings.”
It’s in place to mention here that while chairing a meeting Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta emphasized the importance of sensitizing people about cleanliness, as it directly affects their quality of life.
He urged officers to actively engage with the public, organizing awareness programs and distributing educational materials to highlight the benefits of a clean environment. By fostering a culture of cleanliness, the administration aims to create healthier and more sustainable communities.
“To ensure the success of the campaign, the administration has also implemented strict measures against those who disregard their environmental responsibilities. Individuals found guilty of throwing garbage in their surroundings will be subject to fines and penalties. By holding individuals accountable for their actions, the administration aims to deter littering and promote a collective sense of responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness,” said an official. The campaign, according to the officials, will focus not only on urban areas but also on villages, recognizing that cleanliness is essential for the overall development of the region.
“Through community engagement and participation, the administration aims to encourage citizens to actively contribute to the cleanliness drive. This inclusive approach recognizes the importance of everyone’s role in maintaining a clean environment and promotes a sense of ownership among the residents,” the officials added.
They said, “Cleanliness is not just an aesthetic concern but also has far-reaching implications for public health and environmental sustainability. Proper waste management practices can prevent the spread of diseases, protect natural resources, and preserve the beauty of the region. By sensitizing people about the impact of their actions on the environment, the administration hopes to foster a long-lasting culture of cleanliness and environmental consciousness.”
They said, “The main aim of the drive is to make the citizens aware that their participation is crucial for the success of the cleanliness campaign. Each individual must understand their role in maintaining a clean environment and actively contribute to waste management efforts. By disposing of garbage responsibly and avoiding littering, citizens can make a significant impact on the overall cleanliness of their surroundings.”
Officials said that through education, awareness, and enforcement of regulations, the campaign aims to bring about a positive change in people’s attitudes and behaviors towards cleanliness. By working together, the administration and the citizens can create a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Jammu and Kashmir.
