Baramulla: Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Baramulla, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Government of India, organised a motivation & education program on “Catch the Rain” (Rainwater Harvesting), painting competition program at Imamia Model Public School Yall Kunzar Baramulla.
The program was graced as a Chief Guest by Dr Punkaj Kumar Rastogi and Principal Javaid Ahmad Dar of Imamia Model Public School Yall Kunzar Baramulla was guest of honor. Among others who participated include Abdul Majeed Parray, Ajaz Hussain Parray, Adil Hussain Baba, Sajad Ali Parray, Hafeeza and Mysara.
Instructor Civil Defen Srinagar delivered motivational & educational speeches on Catch the Rain. A pledge on Catch the Rain was also taken.
On the occasion, a painting competition program was held in which more than hundred students participated.
Regional Director National Board for Workers Education and Development Pankaj Kumar Rastogi said, under this campaign, engaging people at the grassroots for successful implementation of the drive are a significant part of the strategic interventions.
He also said that Construction of check dams, water harvesting pits, rooftop RWHS, desilting of tanks to increase storage capacity, removal of obstructions in the channel feeding water into them from the catchment areas, repairs to step-wells and using defunct bore-wells and unused wells to replenish aquifers and removal of encroachments etc., for trapping rainwater to increase water catchment and storage, restoration of wetlands, rejuvenation of rivulets and rivers etc are among the many endeavors of the campaign along with awareness drives.
At last awards were distributed among the position holder students Zubair Hussain Parray of class got Ist position, Jeelani Gulzar of 6th class got 2nd position, Mehvish Ameen of 8th class got 3rd position and Nighat Mustafa of 7th class got consolation award on the occasion.
