Srinagar: Recently, Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta while reviewing the functioning of the IT Department highlighted the role of technology to create J&K happier and progressive in the times ahead.
He emphasised upon the officers to make it their goal to develop a master database for all purposes so that everything remains accessible to one and all.
Pertinently, during the past few years the J&K Government has made many services online and everything is being done on a click.
An expert while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “Technology is playing a significant role in the development and progress of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Use of technology is emerging as a key factor in fostering growth and addressing various aspects in the Union Territory.”
He said, “Improving internet connectivity and expanding digital infrastructure has bridged the digital divide and enabled access to information, education, and economic opportunities for people in remote areas of J&K. It has also enhanced communication and coordination among government institutions, businesses, and individuals.”
“Technology has revolutionized education in J&K by providing online learning platforms, virtual classrooms, and educational resources. It has facilitated access to quality education for students in rural areas and is helping in developing relevant skills for the job market, thus empowering the youth and promoting socio-economic development.”
An official while referring to the e-governance initiative of the government said, “Implementing e-governance initiatives have enhanced transparency, efficiency, and accountability in government processes. Online portals for citizen services, digital payment systems, and digital record-keeping have streamlined administrative procedures, reduced corruption, and improved public service delivery in J&K.”
He said, “Use of technology has given a boost to tourism in J&K by promoting the region’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure opportunities through online platforms, virtual tours, and interactive experiences. Digital marketing campaigns and mobile applications have attracted more tourists, generated employment, and stimulated economic growth.”
“Technology-based solutions such as remote sensing, precision agriculture, and weather forecasting have improved agricultural practices, enhanced crop productivity, and are supporting farmers in J&K. Access to market information through digital platforms is helping aid farmers to make informed decisions and connect with potential buyers,” the official added.
The technology incubation centers and startup ecosystems in J&K are nurturing local talent and are encouraging entrepreneurship, and drive innovation “Supportive policies, access to funding, and mentorship programs have empowered aspiring entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses and contribute to economic development,” the official said.
The use of technology has revolutionized healthcare delivery in J&K by enabling telemedicine, remote diagnostics, and health monitoring systems. It has bridged the gap between urban and rural healthcare facilities, enhanced access to specialized care, and improved health outcomes for the people of J&K.
The government, according to the officials, is focusing on improving the infrastructure to ensure that all segments of society benefit from its advancements. “Technology holds the key and is becoming an important part of the system in the Union Territory.”
