Srinagar: Nehru Yuva Kendra Srinagar, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Thursday organised awareness programme at Rambail on ‘Catch the Rain’ through demonstration activities, skits and Nukkad Natak.
This programme was coordinated by Ahsan Foundation J&K in which Rahi Riyaz Ahmed, a prominent social activist and Chairman Ahsan Foundation was Chief Guest on this occasion.
Two resource persons from different departments delivered lecture on ‘Catch the Rain’. The event was also attended by youth from across the block while some among them also shared their experiences towards water conservation.
Rahi said, under this campaign, engaging people at the grassroots for successful implementation of the drive are a significant part of the strategic interventions.
He also said that construction of check dams, water harvesting pits, rooftop RWHS, desilting of tanks to increase storage capacity, removal of obstructions in the channel feeding water into them from the catchment areas, repairs to step-wells and using defunct bore-wells and unused wells to replenish aquifers and removal of encroachments etc., for trapping rainwater to increase water catchment and storage, restoration of wetlands, rejuvenation of rivulets and rivers etc are among the many endeavours of the campaign along with awareness drives.
