Suicide doesn’t end the chances of life getting worse, it eliminates the possibility of it ever getting any better. It’s estimated that around 15 per cent of the adult population will experience depression at one point or another throughout life according to the World Health Organisation
There are many factors alongside and including depression and mental illness that influence a person’s decision to go through with suicide: chronic ill health, guilt, trauma, substance abuse or loss, for example. The tragic thing is that many of those who consider suicide don’t really want to die; they just don’t know how to deal with the pain they’re experiencing.
If you’ve ever been suicidal or know someone that has, you’ll know that without help, escaping that feeling of wanting to end it all is difficult.
Today we see in kashmir the number of suicidal cases increasing day by day which indeed is shocking to see as we Kashmiris survived worst days in the past never were so distress to take such a step , So what actually is compelling a normal person to take such an extreme step ?
We have to understand that suicide is not at all a solution of any thing and it cannot be justified by any reason. It is prohibited in almost all religions . A Muslim is obligated to exercise patience at times of affliction and fight injustice to the best of his ability. He is not commanded to commit suicide to escape afflictions. However, it is important to realise that suicidal thoughts come and go, and that if you make it through the most difficult moments, you have a chance at feeling better. It is not a battle to be fought alone however, and we need an army of support including personal and professional support, and therapy and pharmacological treatment. You shouldn’t delay getting professional help at this juncture. Sectors like education, health, media, justice , politics should also come forward and work together to prevent it . Also these videos we see everyday posted on social media related to suicides should not be popularised as they affect the minds of many and many get influenced by these videos . We individually should also come forward if we suspect someone is going through a tough time we should ask them whether they are having thoughts about death or suicide. We should Listen to the person, support them without judging their struggle, get them professional help and resources, and keep reaching out to them even after they are connected to treatment. Social support is a known protective factor against suicide, meaning that it reduces the likelihood that a person will attempt suicide. Therefore, reaching out to others even when they are not obviously struggling is very important.
Similarly, we need to reach out to others when we are struggling. Often, we assume that others are too busy or don’t care, or won’t understand us. However, we have to take the crucial step to let others know how we feel clearly. This can be hard when we feel like we don’t belong, or are a burden on others, or are not amongst well-wishers. Also, they may not be able to solve our problems, but having emotional support can help us feel less alone. Only we can help ourselves to overcome everything just remember this life is given to us by God ,it will be full of trails we have to pass them and return to Him.
