6 killed in 3 accidents across J&K

Srinagar/Jammu: Six people were killed in three separate accidents in Doda, Anantnag and Ganderbal districts on Monday, officials said.

They said four people were killed and another was injured after a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a river in Doda district.

The vehicle, they said, fell into Raggi Nallah and immediately after the accident, a massive rescue operation was launched by local volunteers and police.

Two bodies were fished out immediately and as many others later while one person was rescued in injured condition and subsequently hospitalized, they added. Initially, they said, it was reported that only two persons were onboard the vehicle and later rescuers found four bodies and rescued one person in injured condition.

A police officer confirmed it to GNS and said that a case has been registered in this regard. He said that the vehicle was going on from Pul-Doda to Jammu. Identity of the deceased is also being ascertained, he added.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was killed and two of his pillion riders injured after allegedly hit by a speeding vehicle in Achabal area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

They said that an unknown vehicle hit a motorcycle at Trahpoo Achabal, resulting in instant death of the motorcyclist and injuries to two of his pillion riders.

Identifying the deceased motorcyclist as one Gull Mohammad Ganie, son of Ali Mohammad Ganie, residence of Tailwani and the injured persons as Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, son of Ghulam Hassan Ganie and Majid Ahmad Ganie, so of Bashir Ahmad Ganie, residents of Kanganhall Achabal, they officials said the injured duo was taken to GMC Anantnag for treatment.

“Before the arrival of the police at the scene, the vehicle driver managed to escape the spot”, they said.

A police official confirming the incident said that a a case has been registered in this regard.

Separately, they said a woman riding pillion died on spot after the bus hit the scooty near Bandibagh Ganderbal.

The deceased has been identified as Kulsuma Bano wife of Yasir Ahmad Sofi of Giraj Ganderbal.  (GNS)
