Army organizes Youth Panchayat

Srinagar: A Youth Panchayat was on Thursday organised by Army at Dudi for villages of Dudi and Thalli in which 41 males and 25 females alongwith Sarpanch and other important members of civil society participated.

The aim to organize the event was to empower youth of these villages and make them equal stakeholders in development of their villages, a defense spokesman said.

Youth were initially introduced to the concept of YP and how it can empower them to take control of their and their societies future. Youth were upbeat about the idea and agreed to take action and become self-reliant, the statement said.

Challenges of their villages alongwith the actions which can be taken by youth to ameliorate them were discussed. Two male and two female leaders were elected to be the voice of youth of these villages.

“Youth took a resolution to become responsible citizens by fulfilling their civic duties. They identified making their villages poly waste free. Ideas of night schools and computer education were also projected for empowerment of youth. Army alongwith youth of these villages are committed to work relentlessly to take these ideas of empowerment forward and work towards a vibrant and inclusive Kashmir,” the statement said.
