Notorious drug smuggler booked in Bla, another held in Kulgam

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have booked a notorious drug smuggler under PIT NDPS Act in Baramulla. Besides, a drug peddler was arrested by Police in Kulgam.

The notorious drug peddler namely Barkat Ali Mian @Raja son of Mohammad Maqbool Mian resident of Mian Mohalla Pattan has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority. The booked drug smuggler has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu, a police spokesman said.

It is pertinent to mention here that many cases were registered against the said drug smuggler and was involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Pattan and other areas of District Baramulla. Despite his involvement in many FIRs he did not mend his activities and was again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth, the statement said.

Meanwhile in Kulgam, a police party of PS Qaimoh at a checkpoint established near Khudwani Bypass, arrested a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Hassan Dar son of Mohd Ismail Dar resident of Turka Tachloo. During search, officers were able to recover 09 Kgs of Poppy Straw and 11 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, concealed in a polythene bag from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody, the statement added.

Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was initiated.

“Consistent actions of Police against the criminals should reassure the community members that police is making all efforts to eradicate social evils and making all efforts to keep our society free from drug abuse,” police said.
