6 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla & Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg assisted by SHO PS Kunzer during patrolling at Dhobiwan Kunzer intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot, but were apprehended, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

During the search, 225 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Khanday son of Bashir Ahmad Khanday resident of Utikoo & Sahil Ahmad Lone son of Riyaz Ahmad Lone resident of Ferozpora Tangmarg. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody, police said.

Meanwhile, a police party of PS Handwara arrested four drug peddlers including a juvenile, while patrolling at New Bus Stand Handwara. They have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Shafi resident of Braripora, Moomin Masood Qureshi son of Masood Ul Hussain Qureshi resident of Zargar Mohalla Handwara, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad resident of Herpora Handwara and a juvenile (name withheld). During the search, 338 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession, police said.

Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
