20 international, 38 national delegates, speakers reach KU

‘200 locals including students, scholars, NSS volunteers to attend four panel discussions’

Srinagar: At least 20 international and 38 national delegates and speakers on Wednesday reached the University of Kashmir (KU) to attend Youth-20 (Y20) consultation meet on climate change under Indiaā€™s G20 presidency.

An official informed KNO that at least 20 international delegates besides 38 national delegates and speakers have reached KU and are all set to attend the Youth20 consultation meet being held on Thursday with a theme ā€˜Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability A Way of Lifeā€™.

ā€œThis is an official engagement group under Indiaā€™s G20 Presidency wherein there will be four panel discussions besides the inaugural session that will be chaired by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu and Kashmir who is the chancellor of the KU,ā€ the official said.

He further said, ā€œThe 20 international delegates and speakers representing 11 countries are from Russia, South Korea, Brazil, the US, Indonesia, Japan and other nations.ā€

At least 38 national delegates and speakers representing 17 states of India have also reached the university campus who will be attending the consultation meet on climate change under Indiaā€™s G20 presidency.

Besides, there will be 200 local delegates who will be the part of panel discussion including school children of senior secondary level, college students, research scholars, NSS volunteers, youth affairs department JK, the official informed.

Pertinently, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, Prof Nilofer Khan a day before the commencement of the consultation meeting informed that the Y20 is a “historical occasion” and an event of global importance.

Addressing a press conference, the VC also informed that the event would be attended by dignitaries from the Central government, J&K administration, 17 international delegates, four international speakers, 12 national speakers and 26 national delegates.
