6 drug peddlers arrested in Budgam: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested six drug peddlers in Budgam and recovered contraband substances & cash from their possession.

A Police party of Police Post Soibugh during naka checking at Nadigam crossing intercepted a vehicle (Innova) bearing registration number JK05D- 9350 with 03 persons onboard, a police spokesman said in a statement. During checking, 33.50 grams of charas like substance and cash amount of Rs. 32,030/- was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Mohd Umer Doom son of Ghulam Ahmad Doom resident of Chairhaar, Shahbaz Shafi Dar son of Mohd Shafi Dar resident of Mirpora and Sajjad Hussain Rather son of Mohammad Issaq resident of Sofi Pora Soibugh, police said.

Moreover, in another action at Chewdara near Maripora crossing, a police party of Police Station Beerwah arrested 02 persons alongwith 55 grams of charas like substance and 240 Spasmo-Proxyvon plus tablets. They have been identified as Gulam Nabi Bhat son of Khazir Mohamad Bhat and Athar Sadiq Najar son of Mohamad Sadiq Najar residents of Chewdara, police said.

Similarly, officers from Police Station Khansahab during naka checking at Raithan intercepted a suspicious person. During search, 80 grams of charas like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Moomin Ashaq Mir son of Ashiq Hussain Mir resident of Jawalapora Budgam, police said.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, the statement said.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112.  People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
