Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara & Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“A police party of Police Station Qalamabad at a checkpoint established at Qalamabad Market, arrested a drug peddler identified as Tahir Ahmad Dar son of Gh Mohammad resident of Khanpora Magam Handwara. During search, 60 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remain in custody,” a police spokesman said.
Similarly, a police party of PS Kulgam during patrolling in village Okay, intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Masroor Ahmad Zargar son of Mohd Asadullah Zargar resident of Okay, Kulgam. During search, 04 grams of Brown Sugar was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police said.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant section of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
