3 drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Handwara, a police party of Police Post Zachaldara at a checkpoint established at Sultanpora crossing intercepted 02 suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot on seeing the police party but were apprehended tactfully, a police spokesman said.

During search, 45 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar @Jungle son of Mohd Sultan resident of Lachipora and Bilal Ahmad Khan son of Mohammad Anwar Khan resident of Wadipora. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody, police said.

In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Chadoora at a checkpoint established at Nowpora Chadoora, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag. During search of the said bag, Poppy Straw weighing about 18 Kgs was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Ahanger Son of Ghulam Mohiudin resident of Watakalo Charar shareef. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. After sustained questioning, on his disclosure 08 more nylon bags containing Poppy Straw weighing about 125 Kgs were recovered from deserted shed located at Nowpora Chadoora, police added.

Accordingly, police said that the cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.

ā€œWe urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112.Ā  People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,ā€ police said.
