Drug peddler held in Ganderbal: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal on Thursday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

“A Police Party led by SHO PS Kangan at a checkpoint established at Margund arrested a drug peddler identified as Shareef-U-Din Chichi son of Ghulam Mohidin Chichi resident of Baba Reshi Chattergul. During the search, contraband substance was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to a police station where he remains in custody,” a police spokesman said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 13/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in PS Kangan and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
