New VC SKUAST-J pays maiden visit to KVK Samba

Samba: Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu has paid his first-ever maiden visit to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba after joining as a Vice Chancellor of SKUAST of Jammu. He was accompanied by Dr. S.K. Gupta, Director Extension, Dr. T.H. Massodi, Registrar, SKUAST-K, Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean F.V.Sc. & A.H., SKUAST-Jammu.

On this occasion, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu chaired a mega Kissan Ghoshti being organized by KVK Samba under Natural Farming. During the ghoshti he held a detailed interaction with the progressive farmers of the Samba district.

In his interaction with the farmers, he laid emphasis on promotion of Natural farming, Agro-forestry, Poultry Farming, Sheep/Goatry, Mushroom cultivation, Medicinal and aromatic plants, Value addition of fruits and vegetables and promotion of protected cultivation among the farming community, which is also the primary moto of the Prime Minister of India.

He informed that a large chunk of India still lives in rural area, so there is a dire need to uplift their socio-economic status. He especially mentioned that in samba district there is ample of scope to develop the farmers under the various programmes like SCSP etc. He also disclosed that the some farmers of the district may be invited to the SKUAST-Kashmir for their exposure visit in the coming time. He also suggested KVK Samba to document a new book/booklet regarding various Govt. programmes for their benefits.

He complimented Dr. Sanjay Khajuria and his whole team for their sincere, dedicated and devotional work for the betterment of the farming community through KVK Samba and assured that university will provide every type of help as and when needed. He focused on increasing the farmer’s income manifold through establishing marketing linkages and branding of agriculture and veterinary products.

He emphasized on cluster development approach in farming of cash crops and impressed upon farmers that they should demarcate different clusters for different cash crops and take KVK Samba technical support for its development. During the interaction with Vice Chancellor, various progressive farmers shared their experiences as well as raised some problems being faced by them.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor was received and greeted by the team of scientists led by Dr. S.K Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu. In his address to the farmers Dr. S.K. Gupta assured the farming community for all possible technical support from KVK Samba. Dr. T. H. Masoodi, Registrar/Dean Forestry of the SKUAST-Kashmir in his address, laid thrust on promotion of agroforestry and MAPs in the samba district for increasing ecology as well economy of the district. Dr. M.S. Bhadwal Dean F.V.Sc. & A.H. assured that F.VSc will extend every type of help to the KVK as and when needed fot the betterment of the district.

Initially, Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Samba welcomed the Vice Chancellor as well as all the accompanied dignitaries during his maiden visit to KVK Samba.

In his address, he presented a detailed report of work done by KVK for the benefit of the farming community and assured Vice Chancellor that the team of KVK. Samba is always present for the welfare of the farming community. Sinha, Dr. Saurav Gupta, Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Dr. Amit Mahajan, Dr. Shalini, Bharat Bhushan, Tejinder Singh and Pawan deep Singh and other supporting staff. At the end, vote of thanks was extended by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria.
