2 drug peddlers held in South Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in South Kashmir’s Kulgam & Anantnag districts. Contraband substances have also been recovered from their possession, police said.

“A Police party of Police Station Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Naibasti, Qaimoh intercepted a suspicious person identified as Bilal Ahmad Mantoo son of Bashir Ahmad Mantoo resident of Buchroo. During checking, officers were able to recover 130 grams of Brown Sugar and Digital Weighing Machine from his possession. He was arrested and shifted to police station,” a police spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Police Station Mattan received a specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Gh Mohi ud din Wani son of Ali Mohammad Wani resident of Naibasti Hutmurrah Mattan has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded contraband substance in his residential house.

On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Mattan along with concerned Executive Magistrate raided the said location. During search, 500 grams of Charas Powder was recovered from the said house. He was arrested and shifted to police station, police said.

Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
