Drug peddler arrested in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

“A Police Party of Police Station Pampore at a checkpoint established at Namblabal-Kadlabal crossing near MeI School intercepted a suspicious person. During the search, 105 grams of charas (wrapped in Maize Husk) was recovered from his possession,” a police spokesman said.

He has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Dar @Tiger Kala son of Ab Khaliq Dar resident of Aram Mohalla Namblabal. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 7/2023 under relevant sections of laws stands registered at Police Station Pampore and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
