Pheran

Poem By: RAYEES AHMAD KUMAR
The special winter attire of vallieties,
Woren by Youth, children and elders,
To beat the freezing chill of chillia-kalan.

Kangri wrapped under it infuses new life,
To our chilly and icy-cold trembling bodies.

Amid frozen waters and icy-winds,
This special cloak is the lone gadget,
Used to win war against the cold.

Prior to the onset of winter in Kashmir,
It is in high demand wherever you go.

Tailors earn manifolds during the season,
Making Pherans for every household,
Of varied designs and embroidery.

Ladies, both married and bachelor’s,
The ones specially stitched and designed,
Of wool, velvet and tweed prefer these robes.

For a would-be bride, dozens,
Embroidered and exceptionally designed,
Are readied prior to her arrival at new home.

Though it is endemic to entire vale,
Certain areas are exceptionally hotspots.

The inventor deserves kudos and applause,
For such unique and adorable gift,
To which our cultural ethos are attached.
