J&K to have its own Niti Aayog like body

Chief Secy to attend PM led meeting in Delhi

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir will soon have its own Niti Aayog like body which will replace the erstwhile Planning Commission/ Board for faster and inclusive economic growth, in tandem with the national vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

In this regard, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Arun Kumar Mehta will be attending a meeting in Delhi which will be chaired by the Prime Minister to finalise the final framework regarding the setting up of NITI Aayog like body in J&K, Official sources said.

The NITI Aayog has shared 14 framework lists that have been sent to all the departments involved in the process, said a senior official part of the process.

The officer of the rank of Director wishing not to be named said that the Chief Secretary will attend a meeting in Delhi in the next two or three days which is supposedly to be chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Regarding the further timeline to complete the process of Niti Aayog like body in J&K, the senior official said the work is on and several meetings have been held in virtual mode. “It will take some more time,” added.

Once set up, the NITI Aayog-like body, likely to be named State Institution of Transformation, will be instrumental in long term planning, development and related works which are undertaken by the NITI Aayog at the national level.

The institution will have experts from various fields of national institutions including IIT, IIM, Agriculture University, Higher Education, Finance, Planning and other fields concerning the Aayog’s mandate.

NITI Aayog is a think-tank body at the Central level which will handhold each state or a union territory to replace erstwhile planning boards for faster and inclusive economic growth, in tandem with the national vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
