2 drug peddlers held in Kupwara: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in Kupwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

“Acting on specific information regarding smuggling of Narcotics in a vehicle (Tata Mobile) bearing registration number JK09C-1179 with two persons on board identified as Amjid Mir son of Mohammad Aslam Mir resident of Bijildar forward Jabdi and Mashkoor Ahmad Malik son of Ali Yaar Malik resident of Hajitra, travelling from Teetwal towards Taad,” a police spokesman said.

“On receipt of this information, Police alongwith concerned Magistrate at a checkpoint established near Bandi intercepted the said vehicle. During search, 02Kgs of Heroin like substance concealed in two packets were recovered from the said vehicle. Both the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”

Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
