Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Baramulla & Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“In Baramulla, a police party led by SHO PS Pattan alongwith Incharge PP Palhallan during routine naka checking at Dargam crossing Pattan intercepted two suspicious persons. During checking, 29Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohd Dar and Bashir Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Razzaq Dar both residents of Sheer Colony Sopore. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody,” a police spokesman said.
Similarly in Ganderbal, a police party led by incharge PP Shadipora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Ganderbal during patrolling at Zazuna arrested a suspicious person. During search, Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from his possession, police said.
He has been identified as Shahijahan Parra son of Nazir Ahmad Parra resident of Zazuna. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
