5 robbers impersonating as militants arrested: Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have busted an extortion racket by arresting five robbers, who it said were impersonating as militants in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

In a handout the police said that Police received multiple complaints from the residents of Katrasoo, Matibugh and Tarigam etc that some persons enter their houses proclaiming as militants, threatened them with weapons and  asked for money  and other valuable items and fled away from the spot.

The police said that taking cognizance of the matter, a case (FIR No 92/2022) under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Yaripora.

During the course of investigation, it said, a special team led by SHO Yaripora was constituted. Searches were conducted and multiple Nakas were established to arrest the accused. “Today after generating a specific information regarding the module, a special naka at Yariporawas established and five accused namely Nazir Mushtaq Malik son of Mushtaq Ahmed Malik resident of Pinjoora Shopian, Khalid Hussain Deedad son of Mushtaq Deedad resident of Sangarwani Pulwama, Rizwan Ahmad Deedad son of Mohd Azan resident of Sangarwani Pulwama,  Karman Ahmad Deedad son of Mohd Ashraf Deedad resident of Draklarn Abhama Pulwama and Abrar Ahmad Teadwa son of Mohd Yosuf Teadwa resident of Sangerwani Pulwama were arrested,” police said, adding, “From their possession two Toy guns, 01 Toy Pistol, 02 Cutters, 05 Mobile phones and 05 Masks were recovered.” Vehicle used in commission of crime has been seized, it said.  “Further investigation into the matter is in progress,” it said, adding, “General public is requested not to fall in any such trap and inform concerned Police Station about any such incident immediately.
