JAK LI Regimental Centre organizes mega plantation drive

Srinagar:  As part of ‘HARITH KASHMIR-HARITH CANTONMENT’ initiative towards environment conservation, Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) Regimental Centre under the aegis of Chinar Corps and in coordination with Department of Social Forestry, Srinagar Division organised a mega tree plantation drive in the premises of JAK LI Regimental Centre on Wednesday.

More than 5000 saplings of varied Himalayan breeds will be planted over a period of time during this drive by serving personnel, civil dignitaries and school children. The drive is headed by Abid, Additional Commissioner, Kashmir as the Chief Guest. The event has been organised by JAK LI Regimental Centre in close coordination with Roshan Jaggi, IFS, PCCF, Director, Department of Social Forestry (J&K).

In the run-up to commemorate the mega event and spread the message of Harith Kashmir-Harith Cantonment, various competitions to include drawing, debate and quiz were organised for school children who enthusiastically participated in the competition. The winners and runners up were felicitated during the drive and encouraged to contribute towards Nation building through environment friendly initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest urged all segments of the society and youths in particular, to contribute positively towards conservation, preservation and enrichment of the eco system through such initiatives.

He also emphasized on the importance and use of organic products and natural resources to support Global Warming drives being undertaken worldwide.

The plantation drive culminated with stronger resolve and commitment to conserve the nature by environment friendly habits. Commandant JAK LI Regimental Centre thanked civil authorities and dignitaries for their whole hearted support and assistance towards the event.
