Artificial flavours in food industry

By Shereen Pandit/Hashim Khan
Artificial flavoring is termed as various actinic chemicals that are absolutely the combination of mixtures framed as the synthetic flavours that gives the impression of natural flavours in terms of aroma and taste. These artificial flavours arise by adding up to the food items, Recipes, cuisines and for cooking purposes. It includes the additives of some certain coloring and flavoring which are completely isolated from the nature.

Throughout the lot of research and the experimentation there is an observation that these “Artificial flavoring” has wholly and Solely effected the “Gut health” of the human body causing so many dreadful diseases that are certainly impossible to cure. The most common disease that a human body is going through with is “IBS” commonly known as “Irritable bowel syndrome” causing an acute pain in the stomach, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. Some diseases like crohn’s disease and gut dysbiosis are also aligned in the same way, The crohn’s disease is also known as “IBD” commonly as “Inflammatory Bowel disease” that actually give rise to the inflammation in the intestines causing the bleeding from the rectum, skin infections and joint problems. The “Gut dysbiosis” is defined as the unusual imbalance in the gut microbiota causing the physiological and traumatic stress.
Moving to the next major downside of these “Artificial flavours” that are added in the food items is a greater amount of risk in certain types of cancer because most of the gastric cancer is caused by the nitrites and nitrates which are commonly found in meat causing the colorectal cancer risk while adding the additive of ” Bisphenol A” ( BPA), It also causes the endocrine disruption where it was experimented in 2015 by the “World health organization” , Though it has been banned in baby products now.

The paramount effect is found in children’s health causing the obesity and the weight gain issues, Especially in females where there is a high risk of “PCOS” common known as “Polycystic ovary syndrome” causing the small cysts on the outer edges of ovaries that can be for years or be lifelong. In children’s health these food colorings lead to the “ADHD” commonly known as Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder causing the mental disorders that leads to the difficulty in understanding and paying attention in the day to day life, In general It increases the excessive body fat where it cause serious health problems.
Researches and studies:
– According to the scientific research it is delivered that the most common weight gain issues are caused by the processed food that are high in calories, fat, added sugar and high amount of salt. As per a study carried out by the researchers of UC Berkeley, merely sniffing food before eating may lead to weight gain. The study published in the Journal Cell Metabolism suggests that our body’s sense of smell may be linked with the body’s fat-storing or burning process. Abstract
– The United Kingdom and European Union in their recent studies has restricted the use of artificial food colorings (AFCs) to improve the health of children. These decisions provide a fascinating case study of the role of scientific evidence in the documentation of food additives and risk to children’s health and the production of food policy.

It is said that these “Artificial flavoring in the food items” around the clock start playing with your craving for some specific food which is adjoining with an emotional hunger like the smell of some delicious food can increase our craving and tempt into eating the food even when you never planned to have it at first. It can turn away the human body from their life goals and they finish up satisfying in an unhealthy eating habits.
