The National Education Policy (NEP) has laid down a clear roadmap for developing Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Jammu and Kashmir and these are progressing rapidly.
The main focus of the NEP is to develop the skills of students so that when they come out from colleges as skilled graduates. The policy emphasizes on turning higher educational institutions into hubs of knowledge and skills.
In Jammu and Kashmir the Higher Education Department (HED) has been providing all the possible support to the colleges and universities to develop infrastructure and other related services to train the students in the best possible way.
Besides students the HED is stressing on enhancing the skills of teachers so that they are able to teach the students in a way that would help them in choosing the careers they are striving for.
Many colleges during the past few years have secured Grade “A” in NAAC assessment and are moving towards achieving autonomous status. The HED is helping the colleges to come at par with the higher educational institutions across the country.
The NEP-2020 has revolutionized the very concept of education in Jammu and Kashmir and the officials of the Higher Education Department are putting in relentless efforts to ensure that no student is left out.
The introduction of NEP has made the courses offered by the colleges more job oriented. The colleges before enrolling the students for the courses assess their ability and interests and then suggest them with a course they should opt for.
The introduction of NEP has made the regular interactions between the college managements and students a regular affair. The feedback being provided by the students is being taken seriously by the management of the institutions. This is helping the college managements to make innovations and improve the facilities being provided to the students.
During the past few years campus placements have increased as big and small companies have been carrying out recruitment drives within the colleges itself. These drives help the youth to become a part of the workforce from a very young age and it also helps them to attain experience.
Remarkable efforts being put in by the Higher Education Department to make the youth employable are worth appreciation.
