2 drug peddlers held in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

“Acting on information, a police party of Police Station Pampore headed by SHO PS Pampore under the supervision of SDPO Pampore Imtiyaz Ahmad at a special checkpoint established at Tulbagh Crossing arrested two drug peddlers,” a police spokesman said.

They have been identified as Amir Hamid Lone son of Abdul Hamid Lone resident of Lalwani Mohalla Drangbal and Imran Baktoo son of Mohd Ibrahim Baktoo resident of Noorani Colony Pampore. During search, 5.5Kgs of grinded Cannabis was recovered from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

According, a case under FIR number 124/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Pampore and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
