Drug peddler arrested in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

“A police party led by In-charge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Mumtaz Ali Bhatti intercepted a suspicious person at a special checkpoint established at Lidermarh crossing. During search, 1.3Kgs of grinded cannabis was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Assadullah Dar resident of Ladermar Pulwama. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” a police spokesman said.

Accordingly, a case under FIR number 224/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
