Comm Secy RDD inaugurates canteen run by women SHGs of Umeed

Srinagar: In a historic development towards financial independence of women Self Help group (SHG) of Jammu Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM), Commissioner Secretary RDD &PR, Mandeep Kour Monday inaugurated the first of its kind canteen run by women SHGs of Umeed at State Taxes department.

The canteen services set up in the premises of the department will be managed by the women SHGs of JKRLM.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner State Taxes Department, Dr Rashmi Singh said that the canteen services have been started for providing the facility to the employees of the State Taxes department and expressed her satisfaction on involving women SHGs of JKRLM operating the canteen.

Adding further, she said that these SHG women have been formally trained by Institute of Hotel Management through Jammu &Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission.

Commissioner Secretary Rural Development & Panchayti Raj, Mandeep Kaur said that, JKRLM is emerging as the best platform for the rural women to attain finical independence.

She expressed her satisfaction regarding JKRLMs interventions of tying up with different departments thus giving an opportunity to SHG members for exhibiting their skills.

Giving details District programme Manager JKRLM Srinagar; Madina Bukhari said that members from 08 Self Help group of District Ganderbal from tribal community have been encouraged and skilled to run the canteen.

JKRLM has come up with different initiatives and interventions for the upliftment of rural women, encouraging the Women SHGs to earn their living with a dignity, she added.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Additional Mission Director JKRLM, Riyaz Beigh, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, State Taxes Officers and other officials of the State Taxes Department and JKRLM.
