Srinagar: The final match of T-20 Cricket Tournament organized by Down Town Cricket Club in collaboration with J&K Sports Council themed “Say No to Drugs Say Yes to Sports” played at Gani Memorial Stadium Srinagar on Thursday.
Downtown XI won the match against Crazy XI by 7 wickets and Owais declared Man of the Match. On the occasion Mr. Sujit Kumar DIG Central, J&K Police who was as a Chief Guest said that taking drugs is haram as it affects the mental health of a person. Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary Sports Council highlighted the role of sports council in engaging the youth with sports, She said that the sports council playing role in organizing and collaborating for such events. Among others Mr. Shabir Ahmad Shah, Financial Analyst and Sports expert in his speech added that we need collective efforts to root out drugs menace. Subsequently said that government, civil society & other stake holders needs to take immediate steps and frame a comprehensive plan to tackle the situation.
He further added that opening of rehabilitation centers on one side help us to treat the drug patients but on the other side it seems that we collectively failed to stop it. He reiterated that it is right time to convert failures into success by activating all the machinery to save lives.
He also emphasis on the parents to spare some time for their kids in the competitive environment & fast life and opinion that sports is one of the important tool to overcome the drug menace issue.
The invitees among one was Kashmiri comedian Rayees Mohi-din, people enjoyed his presence. He also advised, youth must choose sports to live healthy instead of drugs & other social evils.
