5 killed, 17 injured in twin Rajouri accidents

Jammu: At least five people have died and 17 injured in two separate road accidents in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police said that a bus ferrying passengers on way from Poonch to Jammu, met with an accident near Bhimber Gali in Manjakote area as it plunged into a deep gorge.

“Five people have died and 12 suffered injuries in the mishap,” police said.

They said that a rescue operation has been launched and the injured have been shifted to hospital.

Earlier, seven people sustained injuries when a cab they were traveling in skidded off and fell into the gorge in Rajouri district.

The cab was on its way from Bai Nambal village of Kotranka towards Rajouri when it met with the accident as the driver lost control near Mandir Gala, police said.

The injured were rushed to hospital and all were stated to be stable.

The injured persons have been identified as Basharat Ahmed, his wife Guddi Begum, Mehreen Kouser, Sayeeda Tabassum, Dilshad Ahmed, Gulnaz Akhter and Suleman Ahmed.

Police have registered a case and started the investigation. (UNI)
