Dhaka: Army chiefs from various countries on Tuesday took part in the ongoing 46th Indo-Pacific Armies Management Seminar (IPAMS) in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka.
The seminar is being jointly organised by Bangladesh and US armies. Senior officers of the military forces of 24 countries are taking part in the seminar.
The seminar which started on Monday (September 12) will continue till September 15.
On Tuesday at Cox’s Bazar Hotel Sea Pearl, the army chiefs of various countries participated in a round table meeting. The theme of the seminar was ‘Military Diplomacy to Enhance Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region’.
Other participants of the conference participated in break out sessions on strong peacekeeping mission and its actions and individual discussions on professionalism of junior leaders.
Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed and United States Army Pacific Region Chief General Charles A. Flynn participated in the ceremony along with senior military officers of the participating countries.
The conference is the largest gathering of land forces in the region. The main objective of which is to increase peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region through mutual understanding, dialogue and friendship.
Later, the military officers of the countries participating in the conference visited the camp area of Forcefully Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMN) in Kutupalong, Ukhiya and exchanged views.
During this time, forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens presented problems and recommendations to the incoming delegation.
In addition, representatives of various UN agencies working in the camp and the Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation briefed the team participating in the conference.
Through this visit, the representatives of 24 countries observed with their own eyes the real picture of the camps of forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens. (UNI)
