Militant held with war-like stores in Sopore

Srinagar: Security forces apprehended a suspected militant who was tasked to deliver a magnetic Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) with electric detonators at the orchards of Sopore township of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials sources said on Sunday.

They said on a specific information about the movement of suspicious individuals, the Kilo force of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) established a Check Post Grid at Shangarund Chowk, MRF Chowk and Barat Kalan Chowk in Sopore.

On movement of a suspicious individual on Chak Barat – Shagarund road axis, one suspected militant with War- like stores who was tasked to deliver a weapon, magnetic IEDs along with electric detonators at Chak Barat orchards was held, they added.

The sticky bombs have emerged as a new security threat to J&K.

Senior Superintendent Police, Sopore, Shabir Nawab said that Army’s 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 179 Bn Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police on a special tip-off arrested a “hybrid” militant at a checkpoint in Sopore on Saturday.

A pistol, a magazine and eight rounds were recovered from the possession of the militant. On further questioning, magnetic sticky bombs were recovered from an orchard on his instance,” he said. “These could have caused huge loss to life and property if used.”

SSP said these are the highly explosive and destructive magnetic sticky bombs which can be fixed with a vehicle and can causes huge loss to the life and property.

“These are very destructive and dangerous for security forces,” the senior police officer said.

SSP said this is for the first time that Sopore police has recovered such a device. (UNI)
