4 drug peddlers held across Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police in a series of actions across Kashmir have arrested four drug peddlers from Sopore, Kulgam and Awantipora. Huge quantity of contraband substances were also recovered from their possession, police said on Sunday.

In Sopore, acting on specific information regarding movement of drug dealers a special checkpoint was established at Wagub Crossing led by I/C PP Puthkha & SHO PS Tarzoo under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Furqan Qadir, a police spokesman said.

During checking a vehicle bearing registration number JK02R-1231 was intercepted with two persons on board. During search, 205gms of Heroin like substance were recovered from their possession.

They have been identified as Abdul Samad Wani resident of Sultanpora Pattan and Fayaz Ahmad Malla resident of Hagarpora Pattan. Both of them have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, besides, the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 83/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo & investigation taken up.

In Kulgam, a Police party led by SHO PS Kulgam under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kulgam while patrolling near Polytechnic College Bongam, Kulgam apprehended a notorious drug peddler namely Umer Akbar Malik son of Mohd Akbar Malik resident of Khasipora Shopian, who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but was chased and apprehended tactfully.

Officers during the search recovered Poppy Straw weighing 2.5Kgs from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 94/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kulgam and further investigation is in progress.

Moreover, in Awantipora a Police party of Police Station Pampore at a checkpoint established at Drangabal Pampore near Punjab National Bank intercepted a person moving in suspicious circumstances.

During checking, officers were able to recover 2.5Kgs of grinded Poppy Straw from his possession. He has been identified as Aqib Ashraf Mir son of Mohd Ashraf Mir resident of Drangabal Pampore. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 112/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Pampore.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood and persons found involved in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
