Saddened, says PM Modi on Pakistan floods

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the victims of floods in neighbouring Pakistan and hoped for early restoration of normalcy.

“Saddened to see the devastation caused by the floods in Pakistan. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the injured and all those affected by this natural calamity and hope for an early restoration of normalcy,” the Prime Minister said in a tweet.

India’s belligerent neighbour has been facing massive destruction due to floods and the government has appealed to the international community for help tackle the emergency that has killed more than 1,000 people.

Reports quoted Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman as saying that a third of Pakistan is under water as a result of flooding caused by record monsoon rains.

He also called it a crisis of unimaginable proportions.

The humanitarian crisis with over 1000 dead and thousands homeless and displaced is nothing short of a disaster. Nearly 10 lakh houses have been damaged either totally or partially, reports said, leaving behind millions with no access to food, clean water and shelter. (UNI)
