4 drug peddlers held in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested four drug peddlers in Awantipora and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

A police spokesman in a statement said that Police Station Tral received a specific information that one person namely Showkat Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Mohd Bhat resident of Nadar Tral has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded huge quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house.

“On receipt of this information, a police party led by SHO Police Station Tral along with Executive Magistrate concerned raided the specific spot. During search, officers were able to recover 433Kgs of grinded Poppy Straw from the residential house. The accused alongwith other 03 associates were arrested on the spot. They have been identified as Tawseef Ah Rather son of Gh Rasool resident of Panner Tral, Muzafar Ah Lone son of Ali Mohd resident of Check Noorpora and M Saleem Khan son of Gh Ahmad Khan resident of Handoora Tral. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” police said.

Accordingly, a case under FIR number 132/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Tral and further investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
