Injured policeman succumbs; cop, militant wounded in chance encounter at Nowahata; gunfight in Rajouri    

 Srinagar: A policeman, who was injured in a grenade blast at Kulgam in South Kashmir on Saturday succumbed to his injuries today, while a policeman and a militant were injured in a chance encounter with militants in Srinagar’s old city and gunfight broke out in Rajouri district, police said on Sunday.

Policeman succumbs        

Police on Sunday said that a policeman, Tahir Khan of Mendhar, Poonch who sustained injuries in a grenade attack in Kulgam district succumbs on Saturday succumbed  to his injuries at GMC Anantnag.

“A grenade incident was reported yesterday night in Qaimoh Kulgam. In this incident, one police personnel namely Tahir Khan of Mendhar, Poonch got injured. He was shifted to GMC hospital Anantnag for treatment where he succumbed to injuries,” police said.

‘Cop, militant injured, Ak rifle, scooter seized’

A policeman and militant were injured in a “chance encounter” in Nowhatta area of Srinagar on Sunday, police said.

Police said that scooter allegedly used by two militants of LeT along with an AK rifle and two grenades were recovered following a gunfight at Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

“Vehicle (scooter) used by two (militants) of LeT seized from the incident site. Besides, one Ak-74 rifle and two grenades have been recovered. Search still going on. Further details shall follow,” police said in a tweet as per GNS.

A policeman, Constable Sarfaraz Ahmad of Batote Ramban, and unidentified militant were injured in the gunfight, according to police.

Earlier police said a policeman and a militant were injured in the “chance encounter” in Nowhatta area of Srinagar.

Gunfight in Rajouri

A gunfight between militants and security forces broke out in Rajouri district’s Sujain area, officials said on Sunday.

Officials said that a team of police and army launched a cordon and search operation in area amid specific input about the presence of the militants.

As the joint team approached the suspected area, they said, the hiding militants fired upon the party leading to an encounter.

When this report was filed, exchange of fire was going on.
